Introduction to Store Management Suite

The name of your point of sale system is "Store Management Suite" or SMS. Sometimes it's also referred to as "Loc", pronounced like "lock". 

The store management suite is made up of 4 programs. 

SMS Start, Launchpad, SMS, and SMS Pro 

SMS Start

SMS Start is a “launcher program” it’s only job is to give the user a few buttons to launch the three main programs. The buttons are labeled 1, 2, and 3. Clicking buttons 1-3 will launch the corresponding programs. There is also a “Restart all programs” button that you should be aware of. You should restart all programs if LOC software ever malfunctions. This will close all LOC programs and re-open them. *NOTE* This program should be running at all times. If it is running you will see the logo in the bar at the bottom of the screen, or near the time in the bottom right corner of the screen. The SMS Start icons look like this 

Launchpad 

Launchpad is Loc’s program that handles the transfer of “mail” between the registers and the server. Examples of mail include transaction data, price changes, programming changes, etc. It is not necessary to interact with this software in any meaningful way. *NOTE* It is absolutely critical for this program to remain running at all times. If this software is shut off for any reason reports will not work properly as transaction data will not be processed from the lanes. The Launchpad icon looks like this. It can be red or green. 

 

SMS 


SMS is one of the two main pieces of software. All common functions can be accomplished from this software including price changes, reports, labels, etc. *NOTE* It is absolutely critical for this software to be running at all times. Even if you never use SMS, this program is responsible for processes that run in the background such as the PDA. If this software is ever shut off the PDA device will stop working.

SMS Pro 

SMS Pro is the second of the two main pieces of software. Like “SMS”, all common functions can be accomplished in SMS Pro such as price changes, reports, labels etc.
