How To Add A Picture To An Item

Adding pictures to items is a good idea, specifically for items that are going to end up on the flip chart. This also applies to the Quickstore online ordering.

We created a tool to make adding a picture to an item as easy as possible. Your system might not have this tool. If your system doesn't have this tool, just call the office and we can add it to your system really easily.

If you want to add pictures to items, the first thing you need to do is get some pictures. There are a few different ways you can go about getting pictures. You could go to the internet and search for the specific item and download the pictures from there. (There may be copyright issues) Or you can take pictures yourself with a phone. Either way you need to get pictures, and put them somewhere on your backoffice server. I suggest creating a folder on your desktop called "ItemPictures" and dropping them all in there.

Open up item maintenance.

From the "Custom" drop down menu at the top of the screen select "Add image to item". (If you don't have this menu or option, call the office and we'll add it to your system)

Your screen should look something like this now:

Next, pull up the item you would like to add a picture to.

Click the "Browse" button in the "Add image to item" tool.

Now you have to navigate to the folder where your picture is stored. If you made a folder called "ItemPictures" on the desktop, then you can click desktop on the left hand side of the menu that pops up and then double click the ItemPictures folder.

Find the picture of the item you'd like to add, and double click it.

If you did it right, you'll see this message:

Click OK.

At this point, the image has been added successfully. If you want to see that the image has been added successfully however, you will need to refresh the screen. To refresh the screen hit the "Execute Filter" button in the Filter window. It looks like this:

When you click that button, everything on the screen will refresh, and you should now see the image inside the Add Image To Item Tool displayed.

After you've added all the images to the items that you'd like to add, there is one final step in this process. You need to Deploy Templates. What this does, is takes all of the pictures you've added, and it sends it down to all the registers. If you're using Quickstore, it will also send to your online store.

To deploy templates, click the "Preference" drop down menu at the top of the screen and select "Deploy Templates". (You need to be a high enough level to do this. If you do not see the deploy templates button, it's likely because you don't have the privileges to do this. If you don't have access to this, call our office and we'll dial in and change the privilege level so it will let you do it.)

A message will likely pop up. Click YES.

The next menu that pops up is asking you where you want to send the templates to. You're going to want to select XAL. Then click GO.

After you click GO, go get a cup of coffe. Deploying templates will take a while. The system is likely sending a lot of data to the lanes. Depending on the size of your store, and the amount of pictures, this process can take 5 to 10 minutes. You might see a progress bar in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. When that goes away, you're free to use the system like normal.
